Te Manawanui Classes had an awesome time down at the dunes this morning, with both classes getting stuck in clearing weeds and grass that were in desperate need of removal. With the support of Angus from Tauranga City Council, Liv (our Kiwi Can leader), and our wonderful parents, we were able to clear a significant amount in preparation for next term’s planting session. E mihi kau ana ki ngā kaiāwhina i haere mai ki te tautoko i wā mātou akomanga. Mei kore ake koutou hei āwhina i a mātou, nō reira ka mihi ka tika ki a koutou katoa! A huge thank you to Angus, Liv, and our parents for your support today. We’re really looking forward to the next step in caring for and restoring our environment.

Following the Boys Play Sports Day earlier this week, today it was the girls’ turn to try some new sports! The girls rotated through netball, basketball, hockey, flag football, football, golf and some fun backyard games — having a go at new activities and, for many, trying a sport for the very first time. My favourite quote of the day came from one of the girls after playing netball for the first time:“I’m definitely signing up for netball this winter!” That’s exactly what today is all about — giving girls who may never have played sport before the chance to try in a supportive environment alongside other beginners, build confidence, and hopefully discover a sport they’d love to join for the coming season.

Attendance - Everyday Matters As shared in our previous communications, attendance is a major priority for schools nationwide. The Government has set a target for 80% of students to be at school for at least 90% of the time. In practical terms, this means having fewer than five days away from school per term. While this is an aspirational national target, we recognise that "life happens"—children get sick, and there are times when being away is unavoidable. To keep you informed, we will provide regular updates throughout the year on our school-wide attendance trends. We will also contact you at specific points to update you on your child’s individual attendance percentage. How you can help: As parents and caregivers, it is essential that you notify us whenever your child is absent and provide a reason. Winter Sports Registrations Coming Soon! For Terms 2–3, our school offers Netball, Basketball, and Hockey. All other sports are played through local clubs. If your child would like to play Rugby, registrations for our local club close this weekend. To register, download the Rugby Xplorer app and sign up for the 2026 season. If you already have an account, simply log in and register your child. If you’re new, create an account and add each child to your profile. What’s new this year: 🏉 No weight restrictions for Junior Rugby, so most players no longer need to weigh in. If your child would like to play down a grade, weight limits apply and they will need to be weighed at the Papamoa Recreation Centre: • Wednesday 18 March, 3:30–5:00pm 🏉 Junior Rugby is now aligned with school year groups. For example, Under 6 is now Year 1. Players are encouraged to play in their correct year group so they’re with their peers. (If your child isn’t at school yet, register them as Year 1.) Well done to all students who competed in the Y5/6 Competitive Swimming Sports last week. We have a number of very talented swimmers in our Kura and it’s awesome to see so many students demonstrating courage and getting involved.
