Learning and Teaching

Mathematics is part of our everyday lives.  Children learn through play, problem solving and practice.

At Papamoa School, we aspire to have children successfully develop their maths skills and to foster a positive attitude towards mathematics.  The programme consists of teaching Number Knowledge and Strategies, Algebra, Geometry, Measurement and Statistics.  Children are taught mathematics, at their level, by their classroom teacher.  There are also opportunities for children to participate in extension groups and to receive support in groups such as Rocket Maths and Otago Problem Solving.

As your child’s first teacher, there are many ways you can support them in mathematics.  For information, ideas and resources to make maths learning easier at home, refer to the Maths Guide on our website or the families section at https://nzmaths.co.nz/families-and-whanau
