Board of Trustees

It is recognised that the Board of Trustees has the overall responsibility for the school, but to enable a school to function effectively, the Board of Trustees and Principal work together in a climate of mutual goodwill, respect, trust and co-operation. Our Board of Trustees works hard to foster good relations with the staff and community and is currently in the process of developing a Strategic Plan/Charter and associated policies.

The four major roles of a Board of Trustees are -

  1. The overall governance of the school.

  2. In its governance role the Board of Trustees is primarily responsible through the charter, for the establishment of goals for this school. This requires the Board to establish school policies after due consultation with the Principal, staff and school community, monitor and evaluate their results and review policies regularly.

  3. To support the Principal in his management role, by providing the delegated authorities in education, administration, personnel and finance matters to allow the Principal to manage effectively.

  4. To select the Principal and approve the appointment of all staff.

Boards of Trustee members are elected for a term of 3 years - all parents and caregivers are entitled to vote and stand for office.

Delwyn HahungaDelwynne Hahunga  - Chairperson   Tenā koutou katoa.   My husband Josh and I have three boys, with Ethan and Dominic at Papamoa School.  Since joining the Board in December 2006 I have seen our school grow not only in enrolment numbers, but also in continuous improvement in educational delivery.  Results and feedback have reflected this investment, and we are very lucky to have quality leadership and staff committed to our Vision “Where Every Child Achieves to the Best of Their Ability”   It is rewarding to serve as a Board Member, and I am honoured to be able to represent the thriving community at Papamoa School in this way.  Ngā mihi nui  na.

Delwyn CloughleyDelwyn Cloughley - Treasurer   Hello, my name is Delwyn  Cloughley and I am a parent representative and the treasurer on the Board of Trustees. I am married to Lloyd and we live in Papamoa East with our two sons, Liam and Jack.   We enjoy the beach lifestyle that Papamoa offers and being part of the Papamoa Community.  My background is in accounting and I have had various accounting roles both full time and part time over the last two years.  I now have decided to take on a different challenge and am running my own business out of Papamoa Junction.   I am currently working towards growing my business and hope to launch a new website later this year.    I am passionate about Papamoa Primary and enjoy working as part of the board to make sure our school is a great place for our children to attend.

Anna Swindell

Anna Swindells - Parent Representative   I have been on the Board of Trustees since mid 2010.  It is rewarding to be part of the school’s highly motivated and functional Board of Trustees. As a parent I am delighted that my boys have the opportunity to attend a school that is so tuned into student achievement.  Outside the BoT and parenting I am an Osteopath but also involved in professional disciplinary and clinical mentoring processes, and currently doing a Law Diploma.  As a family with my boys Finn and Cole Anderson and husband Joe, we enjoy getting into the outdoors to cycle, mountain bike, kayak, tramp and camp.

Wayne CockburnWayne Coburn - Parent Representative   My wife Louise and I have two boys at Papamoa School - Nolan, and Spencer. With the progress of my career we have had the privilege to have lived in many different areas of New Zealand over the last 18 years. We first moved to Papamoa from Dunedin at the start of 2002 and then left for Auckland at the end of 2003. On realising what we were missing, we moved back to Papamoa at the start of 2006 and have never looked back! Our roots are now firmly planted in the area and we are proud to call ourselves Papamoa locals.   I have worked for a number of New Zealand's largest companies over the last 18 years in a variety of management roles. It is through these roles that I have developed a range of skills including strong analytical and strategic planning/ management which are valuable to the board discussions and decision making. I have a pretty simple and straightforward objective for my time on the board and that is to make sure that we continue to deliver the very best in eductional, sporting and cultural opportunities for our kids to give them a solid foundation for the future. In my time on the board so far, I have come to realise that Papamoa School excels in all of these areas and is the envy of our neighbouring schools due to the excellent resources, facilities and staff that we have.

  Sharon Orlowski

Sharon Orlowski – Parent Representative  My name is Sharon Orlowski and our family involvement with Papamoa School started when our eldest son started school in 2005.    I have worked in the banking industry for over 25 years, predominantly in the commercial and business banking sectors both in New Zealand and in Australia.  After spending 15 years in Australia, we returned to New Zealand in 2002 and chose the sunny shores of Papamoa beach to live, where we are loving the outdoor/beach lifestyle.  Papamoa School has always provided a positive learning and sporting environment for both of our boys, and I hope that by being a Parent Representative on the school’s Board of Trustees, I can help to ensure the school delivers a positive learning and sporting environment for your children too.

Melanie Lowe

Melanie Lowe - Staff Representative    My name is Melanie Lowe and I am a teacher in the Motiti Syndicate teaching year 5 and 6 students.   I have enjoyed my role as the staff representative on the Board of Trustees as I have been able to develop my understanding of how a school functions, as a business and an educational setting.  I look forward to the remainder of my term as staff rep and enjoy sharing with the Board all the awesome things we do at our school including our arts, cultural, sporting and academic achievements.
